Seminar Tag: Docking

Learn how to dock a sailboat under sail, or under power, in a variety of different scenarios. Sailing legend Peter Isler walks us through the process using animations, illustrations and live action footage. Understand the techniques and skills required by both skipper and crew in order to make your docking experiences safe and easy. The videos are based on the learning material featured in the ASA textbooks Sailing Made Easy and Basic Cruising Made Easy.

Twin engine boats are great for maneuvering in tight spaces – once you know what to do and you practice to build your skills. The single most important skill? Pivoting the boat in its own length, using gears and throttles, while accounting for boat momentum, wind and current. We’ll walk through the how-to of the important skills and strategies, making a learning checklist for you to use on your own boat. Capt. Linda Lewis has taught hundreds of couples on the water in the Seattle WA area (www.privateboatinginstruction), emphasizing safety, procedures, couples’ communication and good teamwork.

How many times have you found yourself just not doing the right thing to ensure you will happily come alongside a dock with no mistakes or misjudgments? After being taught by Pam’s husband, Andy, the easiest method of coming alongside a dock, no matter what the wind or tide is doing, Pam has perfected for coming alongside a dock because it is so easy. See how Pam comes into her slip or alongside any dock that has cleats or bollards, with ease and safety most every time. Watch what Pam was taught and uses on a daily sailing basis to get her boat safely and efficiently alongside a dock. Hopefully this will help others to have that same feeling of a successful docking experience every time. See Pam’s web-site www.pamwall.com or contact Pam at pam@pamwall.com.
