Kevin Monahan is a retired Canadian Coast Guard captain with more than 25 years experience navigating the British Columbia coast. He has also worked on fishboats, ferries and coastal transports. He is the author of The Radar Book, Local Knowledge: A Skipper’s Reference and GPS-Instant Navigation and his articles have appeared in numerous magazines. Kevin retired from the public service in 2012, and now works part time as the, publisher of Ports and Passes, the Pacific Northwest Tide and Current Guide. He also gives seminars on nautical and northwest subjects, and teaches part time at Western Maritime Institute in Ladysmith, BC.
